Diefenbaker groaned and shifted restlessly in the confined space beneath Jasmine's desk. The young RCMP officer shoved back in her chair and ducked her head to peer down at the wolf. It wasn't unusual for the white and ginger colored wolf to find his way beneath her desk when Fraser was out of the office and hadn't taken him along. Sometimes Dief would visit her even when the Constable was in residence. Jasmine suspected he came because she fed him sweet treats, but nevertheless she never refused him. She enjoyed his company. She especially enjoyed him on the colder days, because she could use him as a very convenient foot warmer.

"Fraser said that he will return shortly, Diefenbaker," she said and then wondered why she was talking to a purportedly deaf animal.

She looked at the quietly ticking grandfather clock as the wolf yowled his skepticism. Jasmine nudged him with her toe and cast a glance at Inspector Thatcher's partially opened door. As long as the wolf was kept out of sight, Thatcher didn't mind his presence. Whenever she saw Dief hanging about the consulate, she usually had a sour word to say about him. Jasmine was not in the mood to raise her ire that afternoon.

"Shh!" she hushed him. "Do you want the Inspector to come out here and scold you?"

Dief didn't give one whit about Thatcher, but he grumbled softer this time and Jasmine smiled.

"Fraser will be back, Diefenbaker," she promised. "And then you can have your lunch."

The very thought that food had been promised but yet was still long in coming was intolerable to the wolf and he flicked his tail back and forth against the floor to show his irritation. Jasmine observed this and looked at the clock again. Fraser was nearly a half hour overdue, and it was very unlike the Constable to be late for anything.

But she wasn't worried. He'd probably gotten sidetracked by some helpless kitten in a tree or by a little old lady trapped on a busy street corner.

"He'll be here," she tried to assure the wolf. "He's coming."

Ben Fraser squeezed his eyes shut and digging his fingers into the back of Ray's neck, he thrust his cock deeper into the slick heat of Ray's mouth.

"Oh...Ray," he moaned, trying to keep his voice from carrying outside the warm confines of the backseat of the Riv.

Ray kept one hand wrapped tight about the base of Ben's stiff erection, alternately squeezing and then jacking his fist up and down his thick length while he suckled the swollen head. Arching beneath him, Ben threw his head back and strained to get closer to Ray's heat.

Then with his voice low and husky with need, Ben shuddered as he gave himself over to the sweet tumble of his orgasm. He was only vaguely aware of the muscular contractions of Ray's cheeks about his softening cock while he swallowed. Ben collapsed on the hot leather seat and groaned with remorse because it was over. He didn't realize that he was smiling until Ray finally came up into his line of sight and commented on it.

"I hadn't realized," Ben admitted and reached up to graze Ray's flushed cheek with the backs of his knuckles.

"Well, Benny, you are," he said gently, his green eyes sparkling mischievously.

"I enjoyed you," Ben replied quietly and then closed his eyes as Ray leaned down for a kiss.

He tightened his hand on the back of Ray's closely shorn head and held him in place for a long while, just savoring the warmth and heat of Ray's generous mouth as they kissed.

Somewhere in the distance the clock tower rang.

Exchanging a weary glance, they reluctantly broke apart. Ray sat up and pulled the Mountie with him. Ray checked the time and was surprised that Ben wasn't alarmed when he noticed that he was late returning from lunch.

"You've gotta get back," Ray told him.

"Diefenbaker will be angry with me," Ben concluded as he pulled on the rest of his uniform. "He hasn't eaten yet."

"Jasmine's there. He'll get over it," Ray said while straightening his own clothing.

Ray watched Ben for a moment before leaning over to him. Ray carded his fingers through the short hair at the nape of Ben's neck and then guided him into another possessive kiss. Ben sighed raggedly when Ray drew back from him, and when he reached out for him again, Ray resisted.

"C'mon, Benny, we gotta get you back to work."

Ray then climbed over the front seat and slid effortlessly into place behind the steering wheel. Not bothering to follow, Ben flopped across the backseat again. Ray shook his head and chuckled. There was nothing better for his ego than seeing that the normally energetic Canadian couldn't even sit upright after having sex with him.

"No more quickies for you, Benny," Ray teased as he pulled out of Cider Lake's parking lot. "You'd better not fall asleep back there."

"I won't, Ray," came the mildly petulant answer.

"Yea, yea, yea."

Ray Vecchio pulled up to the curb outside the Canadian consulate and putting the car into park, he turned, leaned over the front seat and shook the Mountie awake.

"You're here," he grinned when the blue eyes opened and met his.

Ben shot upright in alarm and looked out of the window.

"I fell asleep!" he cried announcing the obvious.

Ray swelled even more with pride and his lips parted into a sly grin.

"Yea, you did."

Ben hastily smoothed his tousled hair and straightened his tie and Sam Browne.

He scooted to the passenger side door and with his hand on the handle, he looked back at Ray.

"See you tonight?" he asked.

Ray nodded and settled behind the wheel again.

"Okay," he said with a pleased smile and then got out.

Diefenbaker perked up at the sound of footsteps on the carpeted stairs and then bolted from beneath Jasmine's desk.

"Hello, Diefenbaker," Ben said leaning down so that the wolf could clearly see the motion of his lips. "Yes, I know that I'm late and I apologize."

Ben looked to Jasmine.

"I hope he wasn't trouble."

She smiled.

"No, he was fine. No trouble at all."

Ben returned her smile and with a sweep of his hand, he gestured that Dief head into his office.

"Thank you kindly," Ben said to Jasmine and followed the wolf.

Ben fed the wolf and only managed to refill the stapler before he lost interest in his work and fell to staring out of the side window as he daydreamed. And as he daydreamed about Ray, the more interested his body got with the idea of revisiting the Italian later that night.

The sudden ringing of his desk phone jerked him out of his muse.

"You know you left your Sacred Stetson in the car, right?" said the familiar voice across the line.

Ben cast a glance at the hook upon which he normally hung his hat only to see that it was indeed empty. He swiftly got up from the desk.

"Well...well then I...I should retrieve it, of course. Thank you, Ray. I'm a Mountie after all and I shouldn't be without it."

Ray sounded a little breathless when he answered, "Oh...oh yeah, yeah, you should come get it. Come get it right now. I'll be out front."

"Right."

Ben broke the connection and all but ran out of his office.

"Ah, Jasmine, I'll...I'll be right back."

"Okay, Fraser," she said, wondering where he was headed in such a rush.

He gave her a grin and was gone in a flash.

"He's a strange one," she muttered to herself, "very strange."

Diefenbaker wandered out of Fraser's office and wormed his way beneath Jasmine's desk again. Making himself comfortable at her feet, he curled into a ball.

"Well, Fraser said that he'll be back, Diefenbaker."

But the wolf was beyond caring. He was full and sleepy and didn't care one bit that his pack-mate had run off again. He was off with his own mate and Dief knew when the two of them got together, it was going to be a while before you saw either of them again. He yawned deeply and without a worry, the wolf promptly fell asleep.
